What is Couples Therapy?
Couples therapy is a safe, supportive space for you and your partner to work through conflict, heal hurt, and build a stronger connection — guided by a neutral, trained therapist.
Unlike individual therapy, the focus is on your relationship as a whole. It helps you understand what anger is really trying to say, break cycles of lashing out or shutting down, and learn to handle strong feelings without hurting each other — whether you’re in crisis or simply want to feel closer.
What Happens in Couples Therapy?
• We focus on how you relate, not who is at fault
• Learn practical tools to handle arguments, anger, and distance
• Work at your pace — no pressure to "fix" everything overnight
• We focus on patterns, not blame: Anger rarely belongs to just one person — we see how you trigger and react to each other
• Speak safely, not in anger: A calm space to share hurt and needs, without shouting, criticism or defensiveness
• Practical anger & conflict tools: Pausing before reacting, de‑escalating fights, and repairing quickly after arguments
Do we need to be on the brink of breaking up to go to couples therapy?
Not at all. Therapy works best when you come early — whether you’re stuck in the same arguments, feeling distant after a big change, or just want to strengthen your bond before small issues grow. Many couples come simply to learn better ways to understand each other.
Will a therapist take sides or tell us we should split up?
No. I am a neutral guide not a judge. I never push you to stay or leave — I help you both see your patterns, speak safely, and make clear choices that fit what you truly want for your relationship.
What if my partner refuses to come — can I still go alone?
Yes, absolutely. When one person changes how they react, communicates, or sets boundaries, the whole relationship dynamic often shifts too. You can also invite your partner later once things feel calmer.
How long will we need to keep coming to sessions?
Most couples see clear changes in 6–10 weekly sessions. Longer work may help if there’s deep hurt, past trauma, or major life transitions to work through — we always agree goals and timelines together.
Is couples therapy just for married or long-term partners?
No. It supports all committed couples — dating, engaged, cohabiting, same-sex, blended families, or partners navigating big life shifts. The focus is on your relationship, not your status.
Anger Management in Relationships
Is it normal to feel angry all the time with my partner?
Anger is normal — but constant, overwhelming anger is a sign something needs attention. It usually means you’re feeling unheard, disrespected, or carrying unaddressed hurt. The goal isn’t to never feel angry, but to handle it without harm.
Is anger management just about suppressing my feelings?
No — it’s the opposite. I help you recognise what your anger is really saying (hurt, fear, unmet needs) and express it clearly and kindly, instead of bottling it up or lashing out. Suppressed anger only builds resentment over time.
How can I stop exploding mid-argument?
You’ll learn simple, proven steps: notice your body’s early warning signs (tight chest, racing heart), agree a "pause word" to step away safely for 20 minutes to calm down, then come back to talk when you’re both regulated.
What’s the line between "just arguing" and harmful angry behaviour?
Healthy anger targets the problem; harmful anger targets the person. Harm includes name-calling, threats, intimidation, breaking things, putting you down, or using anger to control what your partner does. This is never okay to work through alone — seek safe support.
Can we fix our anger patterns on our own?
You can make small changes, but angry cycles between two people are hard to break alone — you often trigger each other without realising why. Working together helps you both see your part in the pattern and build new habits that stick.
